  3. Kesar: A prized variety from Gujarat, Kesar is an early-season mango known for its medium oblong shape with a crimson flush on the shoulders. Excellent for pulping and juice concentrates, it also boasts good keeping quality.

  4. Daseri: This elongated mango has a small to medium size, yellow skin, and fiberless flesh. Although it has a good shelf life, it can bruise easily.

  5. Himsagar: A native Bengali variety, Himsagar is a medium-sized ovate fruit with yellow color and good keeping quality. It ripens early in the season.

  6. Langda: Originating from Uttar Pradesh, Langda is a mid-season mango known for its medium size, oval shape, and lettuce green color. The skin is quite thin, and the pulp is very sweet.

  7. Safeda (Chapta, Safeda, Baneshan, Chapai): This large, oblong-shaped mango is well-suited for arid regions. It has golden-colored fruit that keeps well and is suitable for canning. Safeda ripens in the mid-season.

  8. Malgoa: Malgoa is a large, round mango with yellow skin. It has good keeping quality and outstanding flavor.

  9. Totapuri (Kallamai, Thevadiyamuthi, Collector, Sundersha, Burmodilla, Killi Mukku, Gilli Mukku): This mid-season mango is medium-sized and oblong with a pointed base. It has golden yellow skin and is good for processing, although susceptible to bacterial stain.

  10. Neelam: Neelam is a large and elongated mango with a greenish-yellow peel. The flesh is orange and sweet, and the fruit has a very pleasant aroma.

Mangoes are not only delicious but also a powerhouse of nutrients. They are rich in vitamins A and C, which are important for healthy skin, eyes, and immunity. They also contain dietary fiber, which promotes gut health and digestion.

Here are some tips for buying and consuming mangoes:

  • Choose ripe mangoes for the best flavor and nutritional value. A ripe mango will yield slightly when gently squeezed and will have a sweet fragrance around the stem end.
  • Be mindful of portion control, especially if you are watching your sugar intake, as mangoes are naturally high in sugar.
  • To clean the mangoes' skin, rinse them under lukewarm water.
  • Soak the mangoes in lukewarm water for 15 minutes to 1 hour to soften the flesh and make them juicier (optional).
