Heavy rains and overflowing dams turned a family picnic in Lonavala into a devastating disaster.
Four members of a Pune family drowned in a waterfall behind the Bhushi Dam on Sunday afternoon. The victims include:
- Shahista Liyakat Ansari (37)
- Ameena Salman alias Adil Ansari (13)
- Umera Salman alias Adil Ansari (8)
- Mariya Akil Sayyad (9)
One child, Adnan Sabhahat Ansari (4), remains missing as of Monday morning.
The Incident:
- The family, along with relatives, had traveled from Hadapsar in Pune for a picnic.
- The sudden increase in water flow due to heavy rain likely caught them by surprise.
- Witnesses reported that around 10 people were swept away by the strong currents.
- Five people were fortunately rescued, but the remaining five were tragically swept away.

- A search operation involving local police, INS Shivaji, and the Shivdurg Mitra Mandal recovered the bodies of the four family members.
