Have you ever wondered, on what most Indians are obsessed with?

Have you ever wondered, on what most Indians are obsessed with? You’d be shocked to know the truth.

Amongst a huge list of obsessions we have compiled the top three – the first being competitive exams followed by Cricket and Religion.

Indians are going mad over Competitive exams like JEE, NEET, UPSC, Railways, Banking, SSC, CAT, GATE and list goes on. Years and years of hardship, sacrifices are put in by the aspirants once they have passed their 12th boards. It’s no wonder, they keep giving multiple attempts until they clear what they desire. It literally feels that ‘life is a race’ for every aspirant, which includes time consumption and money expenditure which could be wisely invested otherwise. This might rile some up but it’s the hard truth. This might even sound controversial but the fact is people invest a minimum of 5 years in their life for preparations and to crack the exam.

This keeps repeating in a loop, ruining their mental as well as physical health in the long run. One might have multiple career options but they still choose this exam over the rest. A survey states that 70% of well-educated Indians are unemployed and as they keep preparing for government jobs. Not to forget, unemployment is currently a major concerning issue.

The next, of course, with no doubt is Cricket. The craze over it, sometimes gets beyond control. From being a casual game in sports it has now turned into a betting and gambling ground and entertainment. Players raise to popularity for their drama and viral reels to such an extent that people start criticizing the cricketer’s wife. One such recent incident that became viral was the drama of cricketer Yuzi-Dhanashree and Hardik-Natasha couple. The attention it drew was insane. The craziness of cricket fans has grown to an extent of becoming dangerous and life-threatening involving r*pe threats to the cricketer’s daughters and the blame people easily put on the player’s wives for losing a match.

To cite the craziness we can take the recent stampede situation in Bangalore after RCB’s win in the IPL 2025, claiming the lives of 11 and injuring more than 50. Even after such serious effects, the celebrations didn’t stop. Humanity is no longer seen anywhere. This incident shows how obsessed are people with cricket.

The next, is Religion. The Indian constitution has given Indian citizens freedom of rights in regards to religion. But India is diverse in culture and tradition as well as religion. India is a secular country but citizens still fight in the name of religion and in the difference of opinion when considering their religious beliefs. The often debated question is- ‘Which religion is the best?’

This is the most important priority of people, irrespective of their personal lives. People openly harass and abuse other religions in the name of freedom of speech. It is also seen that in some parts of the country the people of the majority religion dominate the minority, under which circumstances humanity, peace, unity in diversity all goes down the drain. Far more than debating on which religion is the best, it’d yield better growth and development if we focus on the bigger issues of our country. Unfortunately, people choose to the other religion which they are not a part of.

Craziness and obsession is a fire – warm in thought, consuming in action.
